Wahoo! It's the third week of the Hidden Gems: Authors You Need To Discover blog event! ^_^ Today we don't have an author with us, but I'm wondrously pleased to give you a look at a book series I adored when I was younger ... and really want to re-read even today! I highly recommend!

And I'm sending a lightly used, hardcover copy of Book One in the series to one lucky winner! *grins*

Without further ado ... the A LIFE OF FAITH: MILLIE KEITH series!

"Oh, Aunt Wealthy," Millie cried, as Wealthy's boot touched solid ground, "It's decided!"

"My child, what is it?" asked the older lady, dropping the letter to take the girl's hand and draw her to the sofa. "What is decided?"

Millie spoke with a determined effort to be calm. "This morning, at breakfast, Pappa told us children, I mean he and Mamma had talked it over last night, and you know they have been praying about it, and ..."

"And?" asked Aunt Wealthy as she clasped Millie's hand to her heart.

"We are going to move ... to ... to ... Pleasant Plains, Indiana," replied Millie.

"The frontier!" Wealthy gasped, sinking back on the couch.

Meet Millie Keith, a bright and energetic twelve-year-old living in the charming town of Lansdale, Ohio, in 1833. Her world is about to be turned upside down when her Pappa announces that he is moving the family west to an undeveloped town on the frontier. The eldest daughter of eight lively children, Millie must shoulder responsibility for her mischievous brothers and sisters on the perilous journey and learn to trust God for her uncertain future. Will her Christian faith sustain her as she leaves behind friendships and everything she has ever known?

"If God is in control, why did He make Fan fall?' Millie asked desperately. "I thought I was doing so well with the promise God gave me when we left Lansdale. And now it's all come to pieces! If He lets terrible things like this happen, how can anyone trust Him? What are we going to do if -"

"Oh, Millie," said Aunt Wealthy, interrupting her. "God didn't make Fan fall, although He did allow it. But we must trust Him," she said passionately. "We cannot give up hope no matter what the doctor says."

Millie Keith put her faith in the promises of God when her parents moved the entire family out to the wild frontier, where life is full of surprises, adventure, and danger. But now Millie, just turned thirteen, finds her faith tested again when tragedy strikes her family, when she loses her best friend because of her faith, and when deadly fevers stalk the town. Can she trust God with life ... and death?

"Slavery is a great evil and we must stand against it," insisted Millie.

"But we've never seen it ourselves. How are we supposed to know for sure if the awful stories we hear are true?" Effie asked.

"Millie will find out," Celestia Ann said with certainty.

"I...will?" Millie questioned as she looked from one to the other.

"Of course you will," Celestia Ann said. "You can't spend four months on a cotton plantation without seeing for yourself! You will write to us, won't you?"

"What are you talking about?" asked Millie, her head spinning. "I'm not going anywhere!"

"I thought you knew, Millie. Everybody else knows."

"What do they know, and how do they know it?" Millie asked, gripping her Bible.

When fifteen-year-old Millie Keith prepared a Bible study teaching on the evils of slavery, she didn't know that God was about to give her an opportunity to investigate the truth firsthand. To help cure her persistent cough, she leaves her family and frontier home in Indiana to visit the wealthy plantation in the South owned by her Uncle Horace Dinsmore. Will Millie have the courage to live out her faith amidst relatives she doesn't know?

Millie opened her diary. "Yes, here it is," she said. Jesus, please hold my heart in Your hand. Don't let me give it or any piece of it away. I want You to give it away in your time, to the right person. Please hold it tight, lock it up, and keep the key. October 8, 1836. Millie sighed. "I will be sixteen in a week. Sixteen is too young for romance, isn't it?" Millie quickly snapped her diary shut. "Lord, I gave you my heart. Don't let me take it back and give it to another!"

In 1837, when Millie Keith's parents sent her south to spend the winter with rich relatives, they gave her three pieces of advice: honor your parents, honor God in all you do, and give your heart to Jesus. Millie thought those things would be easy, but alone at Roselands Plantation she finds her convictions tested in ways she could not have imagined. Will the high society lifestyle of the Dinsmore family change Millie?

After turning down a proposal of marriage, Millie longed for her mother's comforting embrace. Instead, she finds herself acting as mother to her brothers and sisters at home in Indiana while her parents try to save Aunt Wealthy's life in Ohio. Millie must pray for wisdom as the Keith children make room for three orphan children with a murky past and a terrible secret.

Millie's dependence on God will speak to readers of all ages. Based on and adapted from Martha Finley's 1876 series, this updated, modern-language adaptation teaches timeless lessons of faith and courage.

Hard times have come to Keith Hill. Millie Keith's home has been damaged by a tornado, which also destroyed the gardens and hen house. With mid-summer already upon the family, there is no time to replant and no money in the bank to buy food. Millie is sure everything is under control - until the morning Charles Landreth walks in the door. Then Millie begins a new adventure in faithfulness to God.

Based on and adapted from Martha Finley's 1876 series, this updated, modern-language adaptation teaches timeless lessons of faith and courage.

Girls ages 10-14 follow the challenges of Millie Keith as she discovers that being married means making sacrifices. Millie's new husband is offered a job overseas - but not in the country Millie feels called to. Can Millie give up her own dreams?

Even a loving husband cannot provide the true security that only comes through faith in God. Not even the frontier has prepared Millie for the rough life of a mining town. When her beloved husband is kidnapped, will her faith falter?
