Goodwill Haul of April

Good day, friends! Hope you all are well this Thursday morning. I've recently been shopping at Goodwill and other thrifts stores and found some great deals and articles of clothing to add to my wardrobe.

So I thought I'd do a "Goodwill Haul" post, since you all seemed to enjoy those. *smiles*

Other doings?

  • I've been slowly getting over my cold/flu.
  • Reading some great books - novels and nonfiction.
  • Applying for jobs.
  • Writing.
  • Praying a lot about the future, work options, and publishing another book!
  • Trying out new churches (I'm searching for fellowship and a faith-filled community to be a part of.)
  • Greatly anticipating summer.
  • Looking into making soap and selling it (I'm determined to make a batch today!).
Anyway, onto the haul ...

Bought this pretty top for $3. I love how feminine and comfortable it is! And the sleeves are such fun ... a little like the style of sleeves on gowns of the late 1700s.

This one I found for $3 as well. I really like the color (I need to add more color to my wardrobe - I have a lot of classy grays and blacks) and the cut is nice and simple.

This skirt my mom and sister found for me at Goodwill. It's so flowy, and fun to wear with heels and walk about watching it ripple around my feet. *grins* And I love the color.

I was so excited to find this dress! (Goodwill - $6) I've always wanted a dress overlaid with lace. It's so feminine and such a lovely, vibrant shade of blue. And I really like that the skirt's hem falls just past my knees and the sleeves come to my elbows - it's very comfortable for me that way. I might wear this dress to a wedding I'm attending this summer. ^_^

Fun pairing it with this necklace, too, giving it perhaps a vintage-y look?

Oh, and these chips I found at a grocery store while in town doing my clothing shopping. Who else loves sweet potato chips?? I simply adore them ... they're like the only chips I can have these days (besides tortilla chips). I love salty things, most especially chips. So it's fun to get sweet potato chips for a special snack every now and then.

Well, that's all I have for my Thursday post. Come back Monday to watch my fun Q&A video from my Youtube channel! (I already filmed this two-part video, and am excited about sharing it. *grins*)

So where do you shop?

What's your style? Do you like any of the outfits above?

Are you more into salty things or sweet things? Do you like sweet potato chips?

Tell me about life!

Fashion: Of Dresses and Skirts

So I'm the kind of girl who shops at second-hand stores, Goodwill, and garage sales; and has lots of hand-me-downs from family and friends ... I have barely any clothes that were bought brand new. And I never really buy full outfits together (it usually doesn't work that way at second-hand shops, haha). So I've always struggled with feeling like I didn't have many outfits that I really liked/were my style.

Well, since I'm going to be moving out, for at least a few months (yep, it's happening!!); I've been going through my things. I decided to try to make outfits with the clothes I have ... find skirts to go with each of my dressy shirts; make sure I'll have a pair of shoes to match each outfit; make use of all the sweaters and cardigans I have.

In the end, I found that I have plenty of outfits! :D And plenty to get rid of as well. So here's a challenge. If you feel like you have too many clothes, but not enough outfits to choose from, then get your mom, sister, or friend, and try matching things together! :)

Here are some of my results ...

~ Black & white skirt, gray tank top, teal cardigan, black necklace, black pumps ~

~ Polka-dot brown dress, lacy cardigan, red pumps ~

~ Long white skirt, purple shirt, black sandals ~

~ Gray dress,  red coat, black pumps ~

~ Flowery pink skirt, off-white shirt, brown & white heeled sandals, pearl necklace ~

~ Jean skirt, multiple color t-shirt, brown flats ~

~ Black & white maxi skirt, pink tank top, black button-up shirt, light pink belt, black flats ~

~White skirt, blue blouse, gold sandals ~

~ Black & white dress, pink cardigan, black belt, bright necklace, black pumps ~

~ Black dress pants, long sea-green shirt, black pumps ~

From casual to dressy ... classy to fun ... I found I have a lot of great outfits that I really like.

So what do you think? Do you have any outfits like this? Which ones are most your style? Could you put something like one of these together if you took time to look through your things and mix and match? :) :)

Well, that was fun! Blessings all! Send up a prayer for me as I prepare to move! Eek! ;)

Fashion: A Polka-Dot Brown Dress

This is my first post concerning fashion, :D :) I'm not an expert in the area by any means, but I think pretty much anything goes these days... so whatever! :p
Here's my attempt at putting together some modest, feminine, and "cute" outfits! :)

A Polka-Dot, Brown Dress. My mom handed this dress down to me (I'm not sure where she got it from, maybe handed down from a friend!), and at first I wasn't sure I could use it.
You know how it goes. It's just too short! Above the knees, no, not going to work with this one. Luckily, there's things to do for that, if your mother, your sisters, or yourself enjoys sewing, :)
With an old, off-white sheet, the problem was quickly rectified, and I had a lovely dress to add to my closet.

Mix and Match: It's All about the Details, :D

You love the dress, but are tired of wearing the same thing all the time. So give it a different look.

Look VINTAGE:

Wear a fun pair of vintage-y heels, a lace sweater, and a pearl necklace of some sort.

Try COUNTRY:

Wear a jean jacket, country-ish belt, and some boots.

Do a SUMMER LOOK:

A long-ish cardigan, wide belt, and trendy sandals, :)

So there's my thoughts for now... Some of the photos are less than ideal (due to my awkwardness, not the lovely photographer!), yes, but I was freezing! It's true, I no longer live in the forever-winter state of Minnesota, but whether its forty below, or forty degrees, I'm cold. That's just me. Ok, it wasn't terrible. But by the time I got to the "summer" outfit, I was quite chilled.

What do you think? Do you like to use different accessories to give a dress a variety of looks? Have you ever tried adding length or such to an article of clothing for modesty's sake?
